I would also like to add on about the cruelty of that many “sunbaes” (upperclassmen) give out to their “hoobaes” (lowerclassmen). It might not be just in Korea, but it’s so much more common here than in the US that there has been many horrible news reports on this in the Korean news. I’m assuming that this is because of Korea’s tradition of respecting your elders, even your older sisters, brothers, classmates, friends, etc. And I think that many students take advantage of this, and this is how the violence is created. High school students sometimes die from the abuse they receive from their sunbaes. I don’t know if that’s common, but I’ve seen reports of that on the news at least twice. The sunbaes expect their hoobaes to be so subordinate to them and threaten them so much that they are more scared of their sunbaes than their teachers and obey their sunbaes more than their teachers. They rule the school. I don’t know, but I’ve heard that this is common. I just want it to stop. I love Korea, but in all things there are some bad bad things.
Please pray for Korea and just violence and physical abuse everywhere. And the pressure and everything. It’s so serious that I don’t even know how serious it is probably..
