IMPORTANT UPDATE: Blackface and KPOP

todiedreaming:

todiedreaming:

We are tweeting

https://twitter.com/#!/chtvn

and leaving comments on SNL’s me2day

http://me2day.net/tvn_SNL

A summation of what is happening:

On December 31st, SNL Korea aired a skit that featured blackface. Seoulbeats.com has addressed the issue here:

http://seoulbeats.com/2012/01/snl-korea-thinks-blackface-is-funny-im-not-laughing/

and advised us international fans to tell SNL Korea why that was insensitive as fuck.

So let’s do that. This is our chance to perhaps bring to the table the conversation why blackface IS NOT FUNNY and if South Korea wants to be taken seriously as a global power in entertainment (or in anything) they better cut that shit out and understand why it’s wrong.

So please tweet them here to and tell them why it is wrong that we want an apology and for this blackface issue to be addressed

Remember to be polite; this is crucial.

Tweet/comment this:

I recently saw your skit with the dreamgirls in blackface. If your goal was to pay homage, please understand this is not how you do it. Blackface is a highly racist act set out to stereotype and dehumanize. As a fan it hurts to see this happen.

OR

In light of Korea’s international success in the field of entertainment and media, there should be some sort of awareness amongst Korean producers that their actions and portrayals are now viewed and judged on an international level. This being said, any actions/any portrayals that are intentionally distributed to the public should be conscientious of the fact that they offend and perpetuate stereotypes of other ethic groups with a simple “joke.”

Please let’s do this.

GUYS PLEASE

This is very important, you have to be the change you want to see.

I am here by my goddamn lonesome tweeting these people -___-

Get angry, get outraged! This is not to be taken lightly!

Reminds me of that time -> I’ve also mentioned offensive representations here
